TITLE: Scot on the Rock

AUTHOR: Brenda Janowitz

DATE: 2007

GENRE: Chick Lit/Red Dress Ink

RATING: 4 stars

Adam at Harlequin was kind enough to send this book to me. Thank you Adam!

I am such a fan of chick lit, so I was absolutely thrilled to read Scot on the Rocks, written by the very marriage-focused Brenda Janowitz.

First off, I have to comment that I loved the cover! Yes, you will often find me commenting on book covers - which are, in my opinion, very important! This cover made me want to either eat or wear it!

I loved the premise of this book. Our main character Brooke had her heart broken by Trip - but that's okay - she is soooooo over him! So much so, in fact, that she is planning on attending Trip's wedding to "some girl". Brooke is all set for the big day, especially since she can show off her absolutely wonderful boyfriend Douglas, who should be proposing himself ------ any day now!

You can see where this is going and I loved it. What follows is a hysterically funny and, at times, extremely touching story of how Brooke will do anything to prove to Trip and to EVERYONE else that she is desirable, happy and in love. Sure, this book is a little over the top, but so what? Its chick lit and the goal is to tell an entertaining story and the author manages to do this beautifully.

What I also liked about the book was that there are some very touching moments. I felt how painful it was for Brooke to have to deal with her ex-boyfriend and his apparent joy, when she could not seem to get it together. I also cheered for Brooke as she finally gets to the place she needs to be.

I gotta say, between Trip and Douglas, I was betting that Brooke would give up on men altogether :) and I thought I had picked all the losers!

This is a great, funny and touching read. I highly recommend it.

The books cover makes me crave some cake right now!
It would be kinda cool to eat bitesized wedding cakes...

Anyway chicklit, when its a little too over the top, can totally be a turn off. But it's nice to hear that there are other issues that help to level the whole over the top issues in the book :)
