REVIEW for Gossip

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I was offered Gossip.  To be honest, the cover of this one did not really capture my attention and as many of you know, I do love good book covers!

Regardless, as I read the description, I thought the storyline sounded interesting.  While this is far from being a chick lit (unfortunately!) I must admit that I fell in love with this story of friendship, dark secrets and, of course, gossip.

Author Beth Gutcheon’s strength is her ability to very clearly flesh out her characters.  Lovie, Avis and Dinah form an unlikely trio, delightfully pulling us into their tales of friendship and love.

Of course, throughout the entire story, the author has also chosen to insert to quirky moments, often associated with Dinah, although we find some funny, touching and even dazzling moments associated with both Lovie and Avis.

Despite their varied personalities, interests and daily lives, somehow these three women make you want to root for them (and those they love).  I fell in love with the vivid descriptions of society life throughout the last 40 years, relishing those little tidbits of information such as the historical significance of the word gossip.

Excellent read that kept me engaged and wanting to see these women happy at last.
