TITLE: Hollywood in Hells
AUTHOR: Charity Gaye Finnestad
GENRE: Memoir
I am always on the lookout for interesting and funny memoirs.
Hollywood in Heels certainly fits the bill – on both accounts.
However, what I did not expect from this book was the somewhat whimsical and at times, touching side. The author opens with a funny story about feathers – which immediately hooked me. However, a little later, she talks about her sister who died and does so with a tenderness that completely sold me on reading the rest her story.
What follows is basically a romp through Hollywood – while Charity does not shy away from giving us, in full detail just how crazy that world truly is. What sets this memoir apart is that throughout the descriptions of events and situations, the author does not hesitate to put herself right in there – regardless of how this will make her look. A quality that I loved and thought added greatly to this book.
I found myself at times shaking my head in sheer amazement – ‘this town really is nuts’ but boy, was it ever fun to discover just how ‘nuts’.

Hollywood does seem to be nuts. I love a good memoir too!
