REVIEW for Red Sparrow

Thank you to the wonderful people at Simon & Schuster Canada for sending me a copy of this book.

TITLE:           Red Sparrow

AUTHOR:       Jason Matthews

GENRE:         Espionnage Thriller

RATING:

For those of read my blog regularly, you know that I am not a big "espionnage" reader.  However, I feel as though my tastes in reading material has seriously narrowed over the last few years and I am determined to "increase" it again.  When I was asked to read and review this book, i jumped on it.

Red Sparrow is actually very interesting to me, mainly because one of the main characters is a "Sparrow" trained in Russia by her country to be a seductress and master manipulator as part of the espionnage game and I found this absolutely intriguing.

In fact Dominika is determined to punish those who turned into something she never wanted to be and unifies with "the other side" - specifically Nathaniel Nash to gain her own pride and self back.

What does this have to do with espionnage and thrillers?  well, the author incorporated a very clever plot twist - a disillusioned woman who is out for revenge and who will do what it takes to find her soul back.

I loved the storyline although I have to admit that it was, at times, extremely gloomy and dark.

I always love to read books that feature smart, intelligent and intriguing female leads and this book delivers.

What's that saying about a woman scorned? This sounds great!
