Mirabella is 45 years old and has just found out that the man that she loves is having an affair, if that wasn't bad enough, he never even had the courage to tell her himself - she actually stumbled on this information when she noticed that he had been calling a certain phone number over and over. When confronted, he finally admitted it. Mirabella accepts the news and decides that its time to move on and start a new life somewhere else - she ends up in Seattle in a coffee shop where she ends up serving all kinds of different types of coffees to all kinds of different types of people.

This book, while some may consider chick lit, is not your standard chick lit fare, although the humor and the cozy writing are present! Love and Biology is a the wonderful telling of a women who gets to do it all over again - on her terms - even if she is unsure what those terms really are. This is a coming of age of a 45 year old woman who discovers that she does "have what it takes" to be happy.

This messages of hope and "can do" attitude comes out loud and clear in the wonderful writing. I loved the interaction that Mira shares with her customers and they are (in many cases) a great source of comfort and wisdom - much is learned in the relationship between Mira and her "gang". There is something comforting about sitting in a coffee shop, sipping a nice, warm, delish coffee!!! and Jennie Shortridge uses this picture perfect setting and creates a novel that will warm your heart - I suggest cuddling up in a good, comfy chair, next to a fireplace maybe? at your local coffee shop while you slowly sip a steaming latte and enjoy this book - one perfect chapter at a time.

Question time: Do you believe that love comes first or that biology takes over first? So tell all your friends to stop by.

I'm going to be cheesy and say love comes first!

I think biology comes first. There are a lot of things that come into play when you meet someone. I think you have to get to know someone really well before you feel the love.

Tina - I loved this book; totally identified with Mira (for good reasons, not the infidelity bit!). I reviewed *Love and Biology* and Jennie did a nice guest post back on 11/5.

I think biology hits first, then love. Jennie makes a case for this via Mira's thoughts as a science teacher.

Hmmmm I really think there is a combination of both biology and love that can make it hard to extricate one from the other. Although if I had to chose which comes first I'd say biology (can't shake my science background...)

I guess I have to go with biology too, although I'd like to say love! This sounds like a great book!

I would say that biology is what leads to that initial attraction and love is what (hopefully) follows. I think this book sounds really good too. I'll add that one to my list!

Love takes time, biology and hormones are quicker to the punch. I love the look of this cover.
