REVIEW for The Girl in the Wall

Thank you to the publisher for sending me a copy of this book.

TITLE:                       The Girl in the Wall

AUTHOR:                   Daphne Benedis-Grab

GENRE:                      YA

RATING:

Okay, I have to admit that when I first read the synopsis for this book, my first thought was ‘the premise sounds a little farfetched to me’.   The thought of a party girl, hiding away between the walls, in order to escape terrorists who are looking for her and will go to any length to find her seemed a bit much, in this day and age. Having said that, however, I have to admit that I found myself surrendering to the idea bit by bit as I read the first few chapters.

In fact, the author (who is a debut author I think) actually had a quite entertaining and enlightening plotline.  I use the word ‘enlightening’ because was made this story interesting to me was the moral dilemma one of the characters – specifically Sera was going to have to face throughout the book and it made me wonder just how I would have handled the situation had I been Sera.

The three main characters Ariel, Sera and Hudson are all very well written and that was, for me, at least 50% of the joy of the book.  At first, the Ariel character can be deceiving, but as we go through the book, we actually get a much better ‘feel’ for who she truly is.  Sera is, in my opinion, the pivotal character who will be asked to make decisions that nobody should be asked to do.  Finally Hudson, who I was extremely surprised at, was a very well shaped character who fit the storyline very well, although I could have done without the romance angle to be honest.

This book is entertaining and keeps you on your toes, but what worked best for me was the thought provoking issues that it brought to the surface.  Just how far would you go for someone who betrayed you?
