NYC and BEA - Day 3

Monday, June 4, 2012

Monday was a non BEA day as the official start to BEA was Tuesday, June 5, 2012.  Still, we managed to keep extremely busy on this day.

Cindy and I met up at the Javits center for 10:00 am in order to get our badges.

We headed for the bookstores which are situated downtown (at the other end of of where our hotels were located).

This is also one of the only times we got caught in the rain - it was pretty wet!!!!

First stop - Housingworks (again!).  Can I tell you how much I adore this place?  I found some great ARCS.

  • Survive by Alex Morel
  • Burqualicious by Becky Wicks
  • Semi-charmed Life by Nora Zelevansky
  • Ten Girls to Watch by Charity Shumway  (sorry guys I am not linking as I hate doing it and there as just too many titles to link :()
Then, we headed back to the Strand and while I did not buy anything there, I did take this picture:

We then had lunch at Wendy's where we had a great berry salad (who knew the food was good at Wendy's??????).

After this trek, we both headed to our hotels for a break.  I actually fell asleep for over an hour - something that never happens to me! I am just NOT a napper! but I think the walking I did on Sunday did me in a little bit.  I also know that I was going to TWO publishing events on Monday night and wanted to be rested.

The first event was with PR by the Book.  This event was held at a cool restaurant and was quite small, approximately 12 bloggers and it was very nice.  From there, we headed to the HarperCollins event which was also held in a restaurant (Indian YEAH!).  This one was much, much bigger and featured a cool light show and a magician who wrote a book.  He completely fascinated me and actually walked around with a deck of cards doing card tricks!  That was weird because on the previous Saturday, at Pierre Elliott Trudeau airport as I was waiting for my flight, the clerk at the restaurant offered to do a card trick for me.  So, that was two card tricks for me in 3 days!

The magician's name is Alex Stone and the book is called Fooling Houdini - http://www.harpercollins.com/authors/35395/Alex_Stone/index.aspx

We had a great, great time and the generous people at HarperCollins also gave out some swag (this is probably the most gorgeous tote bag I have ever seen and I love that it has the name AVON on it (a division of HarperCollins) which also happens to be my last name!!!

The books were:

  • Porch Lights by Dorothea Benton Frank
  • The Midwife of Hope River by Patricia Harman
  • A Night Like This by Julia Quinn
We left the party around 9:00 p.m. and walked back to our hotels - we bumped into Rockefeller Center and the New York City Library.  Its such a beautiful building with the lions guarding the entrance.

Thank you to the wonderful people at PR by the Book and HarperCollins for being so generous.
