REVIEW for Archipelago
Red Deer Press has been wonderful in sending me some great books, including Archipelago. Thank you so much!!!!
TITLE: ARCHIPELAGO
AUTHOR: David Ward
GENRE: YA (time travel)
DATE: November 2008
RATING: 4 Stars
Jonah and his mother are vacationing in the Queen Charlotte Islands - they are on a mission of healing and recovery. Indeed, Jonah's father died in a mountain climbing accident and neither Jonah nor his mother have been able to find their way back.
In a strange twist of fate - Jonah manages to "leap back in time" 14,000 years where life was primitive and difficult! he meets Akilah, a young girl of that time. With Akilah as his teacher, Jonah must learn all the skills that he will need to survive against the Crossers as well as the harsh realities of that time period.
This is a beautiful story of survival, hope and possibilities! The wonderful relationship that develops between two teenagers from two completely different eras is touching and completely believeable!!! Both Jonah and Akilah are extremely likeable characters and I found myself rooting for both of them to survive.
Along the way, Jonah learns some valuable life lessons on love, humanity and spirit. The writing is prose itself and heartfelt. I loved this YA novel and recommended to all for a meaningful, touching read.
