REVIEW for BETWEEN YOU AND ME

Thank you to the publisher for sending along a copy of this book to read and review!

TITLE:              Between You and Me

AUTHORS:     Emma Mclaughlin and Nicola Kraus

GENRE:          Contemporary fiction

RATING:

I loved, loved the Nanny Diaries, so I was, of course, beyond thrilled when I was asked to read this newest novel by two of my favorite authors.

All I can say about  Between You and Me is wow!  This book is not at all what I expected, which was a cute, light chick lit read.  Having said that, I am not usually into books that are basically what I would consider Women’s contemporary fiction and this one definitely falls into this category.  I like chick lit because it is usually light and airy (see the Nanny Diaries).  Having said that, however, I decided to read this book regardless – because of the quality writing I know these two authors deliver.

This book centers mainly around Logan and Kelsey- cousins who haven’t seen each other for quite some time (for reasons that become quite apparent as the story unfolds).  Of course, both women have gone their separate ways and while Logan has lived a nice, safe (read boring?) life, Kelsey has found herself in the spotlight, for most of her life, thanks to her overbearing parents.

Now, many years later, Logan and Kelsey are reunited again, both women desperately looking to the other in the hopes of finding something ‘more’. I loved, loved this premise.  I have to admit that I have been guilty of wanting fame and celebrity – it all seems so exciting.   However, Kraus and McLaughlin do an excellent job of dispelling the myths about celebrity, through the eyes of Kelsey.

This novel is about finding acceptance and happiness in your own life, instead of always thinking that the other person has ‘it’ better.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this ‘non chick’ lit novel of  love, acceptance and, of course, family.
